I Just Wasn't Made For These Times
Brian Wilson
Alternative Versions Album Trivia Website Comments and Review This album was the soundtrack to the 1995 Don Was produced documentary about Brian Wilson, also called I Just Wasn't Made For These Times.
The album consists of ten re-recorded versions of Brian Wilson fan favorites and a demo version of Still I Dream Of It. The tracks are certainly well chosen, reflecting the more "artistic" side of Brian's work, with five of the eleven songs dating from the woefully underrated post-Smile period from 1967 to 1971. The new versions don't add that much too the originals, however, with Brian not being in his best voice, although the many fans prefer the more organic productions of the Brian Wilson tracks, Love And Mercy and Melt Away. Probably the most important aspect of the album was the "reunion" with Brian's daughters, Carnie and Wendy, on Do It Again, and the fact that the documentary brought Brian as a solo artist and important musical figure back into the public limelight after several years of apparent inactivity, paving the way for the greater glories of the late 90s and early 2000s .
