Aloha From Hawaii & Hollywood
The Beach Boys
Spank SP-147
This CD-R(the very last Beach Boys product from this Vigotone spinoff label "Spank"),was the bootleg debut of the "Lei'd in Hawaii" concert.Whether this concert(from Brian's rough mix in Sept.1967) is all from one show or a composite of several is unknown. The bootleg source is a reasonable cassette dub,but it becomes rapidly apparent that the problem which prevented the official release of this concert wasn't recording quality, but rather the group's mediocre performance,an ill-advised attempt to re-arrange old hits in minimalist "Smiley Smile" style.Still, you get rare live attempts at "Gettin' Hungry" & "Surfin'".The disc is filled out with studio sessions from Wally Heider's studio(intended to produce fake live tracks). These selections differ from those takes heard on other bootlegs of the Heider recordings. The "Lei'd in Hawaii" concert was later cloned from this orignal bootleg on "(Live)Rarities Vol.12" on the "Dumb Angel" label
