If you could express your feelings to Brian Wilson?

If you could express your feelings to Brian Wilson?

By Re- Awakened Fan on Thursday, October 21, 1999 - 01:07 pm:

If I could express my views and feelings to Brian Wilson, here's what I'd say:

1. I'd like to thank your wonderful new wife Melinda for your return you to us, your fans. She deserves our respect and admiration for encouraging you to do what we thought would never happen again.
2. You are truly something special and I am an unconditional Brian Wilson fan, always.
4. I really loved your voice on "Imagination" I was surprised at how beautiful your voice still is.
3. I've heard you say that you're "embarrassed about how you used to sing like a girl". Your beautiful, sweet, heavenly falsetto is nothing to be embarrassed about. Singing like an Angel is something to be proud of (just plain gorgeous), it's your trademark and I love it. You do sing like a man, a man with a wonderful, smooth, unforgettable voice. That's not just my opinion.
4. I've heard you say that if there's one thing you want it's to be known as, it's as a great singer. Well for what it's worth, you are and recognized for it! There was a reader survey done by Newsweek magazine in which people voted on " The best Pop Singer of All Time" and Brian Wilson RULED by a landslide.

Re-awakened Fan, sometimes we get trolls; ignore them. I am also a new fan and can relate to all your posts. And as Brian is still, apparently, disparaging his falsetto, he does need to be told!

By Stan on Saturday, October 23, 1999 - 08:48 pm:

I would say that you've done enough for popular music, BW, but everything and everyone has an expiration date. I saw your show in Seattle, and I felt sorry that you could not remember the lyrics to even your biggest hits. Thank you for the memories, but please stop or rejoin the BB's.

By Basher on Sunday, October 24, 1999 - 08:43 am:

Tim-didn't you leave out a cousin?

By Jeff on Sunday, October 24, 1999 - 04:06 pm:

Brian, you're a hero and and inspiration. You have made my life better with your music. There is no way I could ever possibly thank you enough.

By RMC on Friday, November 12, 1999 - 07:48 am:

I would say, Brian, your music is the best there is and there has ever been. Please give us MORE,
we just cannot get enough of it.

By Arlen on Wednesday, November 24, 1999 - 06:31 pm:

I've rediscovered Brian's music after "growing up"
with him in the 60's. When I play his music in the car,I have entered a time warp, wishing that
all the other do-do on the radio would go away.

I would ask him why he hates SMILE so much. One reason might be that it reminded him of the bad acid trips he had during that time.

By ambbfan on Friday, December 3, 1999 - 11:42 pm:

I would say simply thanks Brian for entertaining usall these years. I would also wish he and his family a very merry christmas, and a happy new year. justafan mike

By patheticfan on Saturday, December 4, 1999 - 05:43 pm:

I would say, "Thanks. Thanks a lot, pal! You destroyed rock and roll for serious listeners around the world and us struggling so-called musicians. Those chord changes to "Don't Talk, Put Your Head on My Shoulder" and "God Only Knows" . . . after hearing them, every other pop tune of the last half century has been reduced to crap. And any original progression I manage to hammer out . . . I end up shitcanning it, just another cliche. Yeah, thanks. Thanks a freaking lot, Brian! You Win. OK?"

By re- awakened fan on Sunday, December 12, 1999 - 02:01 pm:

Hey pathetic fan. Your name really suits you. I'm sure you are a struggling musician considering you have such poor taste in music. Why are you here anyhow when you could be writing bad music?

By CarlFan on Sunday, December 12, 1999 - 04:34 pm:

Does sarcasm mean anything to you people? Geez, give me a break, you guys take things way too literally!

By Wild Honey on Monday, December 13, 1999 - 12:30 am:

well, then maybe you should make it a point that it's sarcastic....like with a *S* or a *G*....something to let them know you're playin'.....it's really hard to imagine vocal tones when reading these things....

i'd say it all in a poem.....i wrote a couple for our Brian.....i'm just in utter awe of the man, and nothing i could say would be enough to express the feeling in my heart and soul.....he's everything to me, and i thank him for that. *S*

By carolineno on Sunday, December 26, 1999 - 02:15 am:

I ditto Wild Honey's opinion in her 2nd paragragh from her December 13th post. Woman! You know I feel the same way about every facet of this wonderful human. So, the only words I have left to say are, simply, thanks Bri, for Everything, Always! Keep making us SMiLE!

And Re-Awakened Fan--I checked that poll (you weren't kidding!!), and I cast My vote!

Pathetic fan if you write your music the same way you wrote the post then keep going you will get close to Brians level, Read what he is saying people, he is using Irony and sacrasm to praise Brian Wilson, His post is to praise Brian Wilson not to slag him if I may parody William Shakespear, Et tu Pathetic fan
Hopefully I will finally get to meet Brian at his new years eve concert in Redondo Beach, flying down there from Toronto and meeting up with two very special people who are also huge Brian Fans, I just hope I do not become a blubering fool, Ideally I would love to have a day, a week, a month to talk with Brian to find out where he is at now, what is important to him, let him know that he is still relevant to many of us that are his fans and he always will be. That his body of work is still is the great achievement in modern music even if he never writes another note. His music has brought me closer to what is within me than any other thing.
Brian Thank you and God Bless may your days be filled with the love you have given us, and your nights be filled with the Warmth of the Sun.

Urglie, Urglie

By patheticfan on Wednesday, December 29, 1999 - 12:39 am:

IainB, and CarlFan, you're cool. Thanks for noticing. The Redondo gig *will* be unforgettable! My wife and I were at the SF and Wiltern shows -- highlights of my 36-year love affair with BW's music...slightly edging out my 33-year love affair with her, but she understands (she knows me too well). Cheers for another century with great rock and roll!

By Grenade on Wednesday, December 29, 1999 - 02:23 am:

I wish I could say that when I met Brian, in 1988, I told him everything I practiced but all I could mutter was "uh...uh.....Thank you." I may have uttered a few other insignificant, garbled things but that's what happens when you meet a legend. Seven years later, I was fortunate to meet Brian again (this time with Van Dyke Parks after OCA) but Brian wasn't speaking much and didn't seem interested in conversation, autographs only. Too bad, I felt a little more comfortable. Van Dyke was great though, lots of conversation.

By carl_and_dennis_fan on Wednesday, December 29, 1999 - 03:31 pm:

Brian, Pop Music will never be the same since you
graced it with your talents. You don't owe anyone
another note, but if you choose to create more then we'll be more than overjoyed to listen,
listen, listen.

Thanks for adding some music to everyday!

By Jon L on Sunday, January 9, 2000 - 07:20 pm:

Brain, the coolest thing is that you still got it, man, and then some. That's way cool, and a tribute to everyone along the way that's helps you get back from the dark. Happy days are here again....

By Morton on Tuesday, January 18, 2000 - 07:32 am:

Brian, never put yourself down. Your music has helped me through deaths and break-ups (or should that be break aways ha ha). When I sing I get laughed at for singing in falseto but you give me the confidence to continue singing this way. God gave you a gift, your musical ability. God gave me a gift, you.

Brian Wilson is a terrific medium through which the music of angels travels. What more can be said? And yes, I'm aware that I sound like a complete hippy chick but I'm not fussed about that! I fell in love with The Beachboys when I was 13 after seeing "Summer Dreams - The Story of The Beachboys" and almost 10 years later the obsession survives. There's a lot to be said for someone with the most magnificent and unique voice known to mankind.

To Brian> What can I say that these others haven't already said?

I named my second born son after you, cuzz by the way he acted in the womb- I knew he couldn't wait to get into this realm we call life. He too has my love for music, surfing and life. Although there's 25 years between me and my son, we both adore your music.

I grew up across town(Redondo Beach)in the 60's and your music was my daily bread. I had a teacher in Jr. high who I believe is your aunt.

I enjoyed the "Biography on A&E" this week of your family and the BB's origins. I heard cuz Mike say this morning on a TV interview promoting the upcoming TV movie that you and AL and him are "considering a project?"

Keep on "Getting Around" BW, I have a special place for you in my heart...

Brian I've seen all your specials, they were done well. They told Your fans that you had some ups and downs in your live just like the rest of us.It is sad to know the price you payed inorder for us to have your music. THANK YOU. However other great writers such as Paul MCartney,John Lennon,Paul Simon,Paul Anka,Burt Bacharch only to name a few did not go off the deep end like you did. You had a supporting wife and family which is more than alot of others had.The ABC special The Beach Boys An American Family, i'm sorry to say must of been written and produced by Mike Love. There is no other explanation.ABC could not of done any research there is no way anybody with a sound mind could put down THE WILSON'S as well as Mike Love could and did.I had no idea that Mike was such a good song writer and that it was really him who was the brains behind the success of the group. Well according to Mike's t.v special he was or in his dreams or he wished.I only hope that the audience and your fans saw what I saw and that if it had not been for you, Brian MIKE LOVE would still be pumping gas and what's her name.I base my opinions on the information from the other t.v specials, the court case between you and Mike and reliable sources. your loyal fan J.B.

By Jason Rubin on Tuesday, March 14, 2000 - 08:15 am:

I actually had the opportunity to do this several years ago. He was in town doing a book signing for Wouldn't It Be Nice, and naturally I took off of work and stood in a long line. When it was my turn, I was so in awe but I could tell that he was very nervous and his autograph was written with a very shaky hand. They were shepherding people through pretty quickly but when he was done I shook his hand and said, "Thanks a lot. Stay healthy. I love you, man." (Note: this was before the "I love you, man" beer commercials of a few years so it didn't sound as goofy as it reads.) Then I left without looking behind me because the president of a Mike Love fan club was next in line and I didn't want to see the carnage if she said something stupid.

your story was such a balm for me. I knew I was
not alone in the world. I bottomed out in 1996
with the death of my brother (can you relate,
Brian?) and it has been a steady uphill climb
to finally being well again. My shrink, my

me back to wellness. Thanks forever."

By tedjac on Saturday, April 8, 2000 - 09:34 am:

I was lucky enough to see Brian last night at the Roxy in L.A. It was a magical time. His voice wasn't perfect and he got a lttle nervous a couple of times, but the energy and admiration in that room was amazing. He sang two sets and two encores. A lot of "hits" and a two new songs. One he said he found from 1983... it was beautiful. He said it had never been recorded before... but it was last night because they were making a live album. He also sang the Bare Naked Ladies song called Brian Wilson... it was very entertaining. His back up band was very good... they even did a couple of instrumentals from Pet Sounds. The coolest thing was just being so close to someone that I've admired for so many years. I was standing only about ten feet from where he was singing. The crowd loved him and you could see it in his eyes that he appreciated the response. I heard at the concert that he will be playing the Hollywood Bowl with the LA Philharmonic and doing the whole Pet Sounds album and 1 hour of oldies. Anyway... it was a special night.

He's my man.
In 1980 in my blank book I wrote to Brian:
It all faded so fast
didn't it?
but Oh! it came
back
so clear.
What had you forgotten?
More than you ever
can forget.
And you get that
so clear
so easily
And take it so hard
your way
so easily.'

Brian: You just don't know how you've affected my life with your music, your words, and how your life and mine were so similar. I bawled my eyes out reading about the same things we went through. You've touched a part of all of us, male, female, kids, adults, all races, all humans. Anyone listening to your music, your words, just has to be in-tune with them in their own way. You inspire all of us to be allowed to be just human. All of our strengths and weaknesses are reflected in your songs. You are one who tells the truth when you say you write music from the heart. It's so wonderful knowing there are other real people in this world as you. God Bless You!

I don't think something as crude as the spoken (or written) word can adequately communicate what Brian has meant to us. I do a bit of songwriting in my spare time, and my ultimate goal is to someday be able to write a piece of music that contains all of the intense and varied emotions that I (we) feel for the man and the music. :)

Brian Wilson,
I think you should take comfort and peace in the fact that your music will be remembered for generations. That is your legacy, and it will last forever. I would be greatful to have a legacy like that.
I love your music for the goodness and simplicity it gives us, not the complexities. The joyful sounds, the sheer beauty of the harmonies, and a unique and daring falsetto that changed the face of popular music.
"God Only Knows" is a masterpiece! No wonder Paul believes it's the most beautiful song he's ever heard. It evokes love and faith together. I wonder if you realized that as you wrote it.
Finally, don't be anxious about the future. Be at peace, and continue to use your gifts. God Bless You!

I grew up with Brian and the Beachboys. After raising a family, I have come back to love them all over again. I appreciate Brian so much more, the songs and how much they meant to me as I was growing up. I love Brian and his music - I'm addicted all over again. I appreciate even more Brian's beautiful voice.

I listen to the Beach Boys each time I go to the gym. It keeps me motivated to finish my workout.

Brian Wilson,
During times of pleasure and pain, you're music has been there for me. I remember being a little kid and going to the beach with my parents. On the drive up, we'd listen to ENDLESS SUMMER on the 8Track player. As a little boy, I knew all the words to the songs. The feeling I got from the music was positive and fun. As a teenager, I still had your music with me. I would listen to the same song over and over in my car tape-deck player. How many times did I play DON'T WORRY BABY on the way to my job, I couldn't tell you. Hundreds of times. I'm 26 now. I work in an office in Pawtucket Rhode Island, and I'm always listening to PET SOUNDS, TODAY, SUNFLOWER and SMILEY SMILE on my CD player. In my car, I've noticed that FRIENDS is popluar choice for my CD stereo. You've written the world's greatest rock songs, ballads and off-the-wall stuff. You are a king. If you choose to continue song writing, I will support you 'till you die. If you decide to stop, I will forever be devoted to your classic music and will continue to honor your name. Nobody writes like you. Nobody will. God bless you and your family.
Mike
