"Melody" [There's a little bit of music Deep down in everyone's soul] There's blues folk and country [There's blues, folk and country And classical and rock and roll] Narrator: Johnny Rivers and Alan Jardine are adding some music to *their* day. [The world could come together as one] Wouldn't you like to add some to yours? [If everybody under the sun Could add some music Add some music To their day Add some music To your day Add some music Add some music To your day] ("California" intro) Narrator: When we sing a song, we usually sing the melody. Let's hear how Alan Jardine of the Beach Boys uses melody to make his music. Al: Ok kids, now Johnny taught you something about rythm, alright? So let's learn something about melody. You know what a melody is? Kids: No. Noooope. Nope. Al: Oh no. Well melody is a series of notes, like this. (organ) C, E, G. Let's try to take C, E, and G and put them into a melody. Now let's start with a rhythm like this. ("California" intro) Now let's add a chord. (Music continued) And we'll sing a melody over it. [Now have you ever been south of Monterey Barrancas carve the coastline And the chapparal flows to the sea 'Neath waves of golden sunshine And have you ever been north of Morro Bay The south coast ploughs the sea And the people there are of the breed They don't need electrici-ty] O.k. O.k. Now this one, this one goes something like this and we're gonna use different notes this time because you can use any notes you want to with a melody. It doesn't have to be the same notes. Now these will be called E, G-sharp, B, and E again. Now if we put these together, and I'm gonna play it on the guitar, because you can play melodies on different instruments, too, it'll sound something like this. Kid: da doop da doop da doop Al: Yeah. And uh, it's called "Add Music To Your Day," and the melody goes something like this. ("Add some music") [At a movie You can feel it touching your heart And on every day Of the summertime You'll hear children chasin' ice cream carts They'll play it on your wedding day There must be 'bout a million ways To add some music To your day] Al: And *that's* a melody. So add some music to *your* day. 9. "Sound Of Free" Children of light In darkness all around We all are born without sight And shackled to the ground Drawn always toward the sound of free Free I pray my love Will make you come to see I know the way So come and follow me And always hear the sound Of free Free The mountains are high The valleys so low I know the way through Come baby listen to me I'll whisper the sound of free Free free free Come on Listen to me Whoa As high as the sky As deep as the sea The sound of free Listen listen Oooh The sound is comin' And I hear The sound of free The sound is comin' And I see The sound of free Children of light In darkness all around Whoa I pray my love Will make you come and see Whoa Children of light
