MORNING CHRISTMAS

This haunting hymn is said to have been written by Dennis for the unreleased "Merry Christmasfrom The Beach Boys" album (1978).  But the sound, mood, and production are Pacific Ocean Blue all the way.  In the twenty years between its creation in 1978 and its "ultimate" release in 1998, the song was also referred to as "Holy Evening" or "Holy Holy".  Creating this chord for "the Cab" brought a special Christmas joy for me - - my daughter Kelly, who just started piano lessons this year, puzzled out the verse for me, playing it "by ear".  This time it was her instead of me seated at the Yamaha Electric Grand figuring out a Beach Boys song, while I just sat there listening, doing the CD playback, and exhorting her with the occasional  "Yes, that sounds like it, good job!".  And so another torch is passed.  God bless you Dennis for leaving us this beautiful Christmas song to enjoy. 
[If you have a Bass Harmonica and a set of Tubular Bells laying around the house (or a reasonable Sample thereof), just have someone hit the Root and 5th occaisionally.  If possible, play right hand on acoustic piano, with left hand on piano for the verses and on synth bass pad for the chorus and bridge. I think you'll be surprised how close you can get it to sound.]
